Women Love Cars Too: New York Auto Show

Another year of hot rides and dream cars has arrived as the New York International Auto Show (NYIAS) rolls into the Jacob Javits Center.

img_0636Car enthusiasts from all over gather to “ooh and ahhhh” over the latest car trends, the future of automobiles, and pose in front of cars they will only get close to at the NYIAS. These enthusiasts also include WOMEN!  We got to get a sneak peak of the 1,000 cars on display this year courtesy of A Girls Guide to Cars Annual Girls Night Out event.  The founder, Scotty Reiss dropped some interesting stats on us.

Seven years ago, when A Girls Guide to Cars started their Girls Night Out event, 70% of the attendees at the car show were men.  Fast forward to today, more than half of the attendees for the entire show are FEMALE!  Simply put… The Power of WOMAN!img_0595

A few trends buzzing this year include extra compartment space in the trunk areas and the front seats, bigger entertainment system displays and dashboards, and the future of electric cars.

Most automobile companies are introducing consumers to electric cars.  We heard pros and cons about the future innovation; and while it’s a great break from regular gasoline, saving the Earth, and provide more mileage than a full tank of gas, the problem lies in the charging of these cars.  Although a power charge does come with your vehicle purchase, what happens if you go on a road trip and have to charge on the on the road or while at your destination. Can the car last on a road trip over 15 hours?  Nonetheless, they are a sight to see.  Check out the ones that caught our eye and sparked our interest:

Electric Cars

Rivian is an American 10-year old car company based in Irvine, CA. The company introduced us to the All-Electric Truck. I found it to be the most convenient truck out of all the cars I saw. It’s not just a truck to drive. It has everything that a driver (particularly women) would use on a daily basis and/or on a long trip. Including:

  • Security cam built in.
  • Onboard compressed air.
  • Full size spare.
  • Flashlight
  • A “FRUNK”- A trunk in the front…where an engine usually resides.

The Rivian goes from 0-60 mph in three second and is capable too of towing up to 10,000 lbs. Price starts at $69,000 and will be available early 2020.

Jaguar’s new I-Pace is a pure Battery Electric SUV with the performance of a sports car.  It has an impeccable 240 miles of range and has also won three World Car Awards:

  • 2019 World Car of the Year
  • 2019 World Car Design of the Year
  • 2019 World Green Car
